Onward to the North!

We're getting nearer! Mary and I drove from Hawick in The Borders to Inverness today; Bill is enroute to London for a conference and will rejoin us in a few days. We had a lovely drive--a little anxious with traffic around Edinburgh, but Doreen the GPS did just fine.

Mid-afternoon we stopped here at Clava Cairns, a Bronze Age site incorporating three burial cairns of different types and rings of standing stones.
Most of the stones are not tall, the tallest, about ten feet, is in this third photo.=

And silly me, I did it again, neglected to take a picture with the ipad mini of Cawdor Castle! You will be pleased to know, however, that Macbeth had quite a green thumb and established a lovely garden, including blue poppies! Ever heard of blue poppies?!!!
Tomorrow farther north, even above Wick. We'll see more really old stuff on the way--how's that for poetry?

  1. Double double,
    Blue poppies mean trouble!
    Fires burn
    When Cawdor's humbled!

(YOU LEFT ME OUT OF THE PICTURES? asks Macbeth's castle.)
